On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, Michael J. Thompson, a beloved husband and father passed away at the age of 59, surrounded by his family. He was born to Ann Thompson and John (Mary) Thompson and raised in Rochester, NY. Michael was a proud veteran, joining the Army Reserves while attending SUNY Geneseo. It was there that he met his wife, Marcia (Davidson) Thompson and the two were married for 35 years as of this past August. They had a wonderful life and raised three children, Collin Thompson, Shaun (Morgan) Thompson, and Emily (Matthew) Battaglia in Baldwinsville, NY. He was so proud they all followed in his footsteps into the field of education.
Michael was a dedicated educator who recently retired after 36 years teaching 5th grade at Roxboro Road Middle School in North Syracuse CSD. While there, he touched the lives of countless students, staff, and community members. Michael also supported the success of students outside the classroom through various community initiatives.
Family was of utmost importance to Michael, as he was one of six children, with many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. Michael loved spending time with family, traveling, and supporting his children’s many activities, especially marching band and cross country. He was an avid NY Yankees, Syracuse basketball, and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Michael also enjoyed reading, puzzles, cooking, and a strong cup of black coffee. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, sarcastic wit, and unwavering love.
A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Aspen House, 8550 N. Entry Rd., Baldwinsville, NY 13027. All are welcome to stop by between 3:00-7:00pm to share a cup of coffee and your favorite memory of Mike.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Michael’s name to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, of which he was a dedicated supporter, shaving his head annually for the last 15 years.
